Returns for "does not work in my car" are the most expensive problem in this category. The good news is that compatibility comes down to one question, and drivers can answer it in two minutes.
The one requirement
Wireless adapters, AI boxes and video boxes all work through the car's own CarPlay system. So the car must already support CarPlay over a USB cable from the factory. Several of our models also work in cars that support Android Auto over a cable. If the car has neither, none of these products can add it.
The two-minute test
- Plug an iPhone into the car's USB port with a cable.
- If CarPlay starts on the factory screen, the car has wired CarPlay.
- If the car has several USB ports, try each and note which one starts CarPlay, and whether it is USB-A or USB-C.
- If CarPlay already starts without a cable, the car has wireless CarPlay. Adapters add little; an AI box still adds Android apps and video.
Cars that need a closer look
- BMW: some models use their own CarPlay setup. We offer a BMW-specific AI box; send us the model and year to confirm.
- Cars whose maker has dropped CarPlay and Android Auto, such as some recent electric models, cannot use these products.
- Aftermarket head units with CarPlay usually work, but confirm before ordering in volume.
What to put in your listing
State the requirement clearly in the title or first bullet: "for cars with factory wired CarPlay". Add the two-minute test to your listing images. It filters out wrong orders before they happen and cuts returns.
Send us the makes, models and years your customers drive, and we will tell you which of our models fit.
